HIDDEN LAYER
CRAFTS CENTER PROJECT
TYPE: 2ND YEAR ACADEMIC PROJECT
YEAR: 2023
LOCATION: SAYEDA ZEINAB, CAIRO
vision

The project aims to enhance the connection between the community and the surrounding area by linking the building with the street and interacting with it; revive the history of the site by linking the project land with the remains of a tuluned waterwheel; and create a public node where people can interact with the building and observe the craftsmen at work to revive the forgotten handcrafts of the area.
WHY HIDDEN LAYER
Historic Cairo consists of many historical layers that make up the Cairo that we know now. One of the historical layers is the city of Al-Qata’i, which was razed to the ground and only the Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque and the remains of the Tulunid waterwheel remain, which are neglected and need to be restored and to be a place to publish information about the history of The tuluned lost city.
